"He dangles up the ice and beats the defense man. What a spin move around the last defender. He's on a breakaway he does a toe drag around the goalie. Scores". As you're reading this you are probably wondering what I'm talking about when I say "toe drag", "spin move" and "dangle". You'll learn all about this terms as you read my blog post. I'm writing this blog about Hockey the best sport ever played. My favourite player is Pavel Datsyuk and he plays for my favourite team the Detroit Red Wings. So I hope you enjoy learning new things because you're going to in this blog post.My points about my topic are the terms of hockey, why it's my favourite sport and all the basic equipment you have to wear to play this sport.
Firstly, there are about 1,000,000,000,000 different terms in Hockey. A lot of them mean the same thing but they are all different words. Some are strange and some of them are really cool. There are the 10 most important terms in hockey. The five hole: one of the corners of the net. In between the legs. Dangle: an absolutely fantastic and amazing deke. Celebration of cele for short: a huge cheer after a big save or goal. Deke: a movement of the puck with a stick. Spin move: a move in which you spin around a defender. Toe drag: a deke where you drag the puck back with your stick. Shot: a play where a player uses his stick to hit the puck towards the net. Pass: a play where a player uses his stick to hit the puck to another player. Stick: a piece of wood or composite that is used to pass and shoot. Hit: a play in which a player uses his body to knock into another player to get the puck. (Or to just completely nail him). There are the ten most important terms in hockey. OK, I know what your feeling. 1,000,000,000,000 terms to know, that's crazy. It took me a long time to know them all too.
"Mom just wake me up at exactly 5:15 for practice". This is what you hear on Thursday night before I go to sleep. Every Friday morning I have a 6:30 in the morning practice for hockey. It can get kind've annoying waking up that early every Friday but it can be very fun. Last year I had a car pool with my friends for these practises. We all loved it because it was so much fun. Everyone would sit in the back seat with their full equipment on and then we would drive off to hockey. We were all so tired but that wasn't the end of these hectic mornings. When we got to the rink we would have to tie our skates which was really hard on our hands. Then we would go on the ice and skate for an hour. This was even more tiring then waking up at about 5:30 in the morning. Then we would scramble out of the dressing room and go home. Then I would throw on my school clothes and rush to the car. This is exactly why I love hockey.
Another reason why I love hockey is because I love the mini dressing rooms, the rivalry of playing the Waterloo team, the fun of being with your friends, the thrill of scoring a great goal, running on the ice for the warm up and lastly the fun of the 6:30 in the morning practises. There are a lot more reasons why I like hockey but i don't want to make my post to long. So I gave you the main reasons of why I love hockey.
"Mom can you help me put on my skates" There are about 12 different pieces of equipment you have to wear to play hockey. Here are all of them: shin pads, helmet, mouth guard, shoulder pads, skates, stick, gloves, jock, neck guard, socks to cover your shin pads, hockey pants, elbow pads and a jersey. Hockey has more equipment then almost any sport in the world. The one thing about hockey is that you never know what another player is going to do to you. What I mean is that it's better to wear all this equipment than to be vulnerable to a stick to the head.
The one problem in hockey is that there are so many ways to get hurt. This is the risk that I take when I put on the skates and get on the ice. Equipment is very important so if you ever play always use equipment to be safe.
There are lots of sports out there that you can try to play but just remember the breeze running through your hair and the feeling of scoring a goal before trying another sport.
Life Lesson: don't play a sport just for the sake of playing it, play it because you enjoy and love it. Play it because you want to and because it will be an experience that you will remember for a long time.

I agree, hockey is for sure one of the best sports ever invented in the history of time, I'm not sure there are that many hockey terms though, there's stuff like five hole, top shelf, blocker side, glove side, deke, fore-check, back-check. And allot of words that mean the same thing like checked, hit, leveled, and beasted, there's allot of words but not 1,000,000,000,000 of them. Also, a deke isn't just stick handling the puck about, because if you just do that someone's gonna come, level you, take the puck, and leave. A deke is like when someone's about to level you with a massive hit into the boards and you stop short, watch them unexpectedly miss your body and crumple into the boards right in front of you, then keep skating with the puck, that's one of the most simple dekes yet more effective ones. So a spin move and a toe drag would fall into that category.
ReplyDeleteI can't say I like early practices... at all, and on top of that tying my skates is also annoying cause it hurts your hands, for the early practices I just get my dad to tie them.
I honestly didn't know that hockey had more equipment than any other sport in the world, i never really thought about it before but the only other sports with allot of equipment that I can think of are football and lacrosse but I don't know how much exactly that they wear. Anyways, awesome blog. :P
